My mother told me not to quit– Former Chiefs star
After loan spells at Moroka Swallows and Uthongathi, Chiefs recalled Matsheke before releasing him for good last last season.
The 24-year-old from Soweto endured a clubless spell before nearly signing for Casric Stars in the lower Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Following his move to the Cape Winelands in August, Matsheke has bagged two Man of the Match awards, as well as scoring the winning penalty to hand Stellies their first ever trophy since promotion to the PSL in 2018/19.
NEARLY QUIT FOOTBALL
“I thought I would not play in the DStv Premiership again,” the central midfielder told the media on Saturday.
“I was supposed to sign with Casric Stars, but I got a call from Stellenbosch and that call changed my life I could say. I was like an hour away from signing [for] Casric Stars,” Matsheke added.
“It was very hard. At some point, I wanted to call it quits, but I’d like to thank my mum. She encouraged me not to give up, she kept on pushing me and said one call would come and it did,” the Chiefs development product concluded.
