First Look: Is the Bigger 2025 Mini Countryman EV SUV Better?

Mini has a maxi year planned, with a fresh new lineup that embraces the transition to electric vehicles, starting with the new 2025 Mini Countryman EVfor the U.S., followed by the new Mini Cooper EV. While the Coopers will get smaller, the third-generation Countryman, which was already the largest Mini when the original launched in 2010, grows again in size. Both sport new looks and optional electric motors. The EV versions of the next-generation models are making their public debut at the Munich auto show as Mini transitions to an all-electric brand by 2030.

The new Countryman is 5.1 inches longer and 2.4 inches higher with wider wheel arches to accommodate wheels up to 20 inches, says Thomas Sycha, head of Mini exterior design. The crossover sits more upright with short overhangs, a redesigned C-pillar, and sporting a more distinctive octagonal grille. The front LED headlights are more rectangular and no longer framed with chrome—in fact chrome is banished from the vehicle altogether in favor of more sustainable materials.
