Ex Kaizer Chiefs starlet training with rival PSL club!

Image
Former Kaizer Chiefs academy graduate Darrel Matsheke is impressing during his trial at Stellenbosch FC. The midfielder is currently training with Steve Barker’s side, with the hope of securing a permanent move to the club. According to Barker, Matsheke has already left a major impression on the coaching staff. The 24-year-old midfielder made just 12 appearances for Kaizer Chiefs after being promoted to the first team in 2020. He was loaned out to Uthongathi in 2021 before joining Swallows on loan in 2022. The Amakhosi management took the decision to release him from his contract at the end of last season.

Teko Modise comes down hard on Kaizer Chiefs players!

Image
Kaizer Chiefs players need to start taking responsibility for their mistakes according to Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns legend Teko Modise. Molefi Ntseki has been under immense pressure for the club’s underwhelming results so far this season. Chiefs crashed out of the MTN8 at the semi-final round and are already 13 points behind Mamelodi Sundowns. Take a look at what Teko Modise had to say regarding the situation at Naturena.

Pirates make announcement on Sundowns match

Image
What a game we’re going to have. Orlando Pirates will host Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 final next week, and we have bad news if you don’t have a ticket yet. As confirmed last weekend after Sundowns and Pirates defeated Kaizer Chiefs as well as Stellenbosch FC respectively, the  Sea Robbers  and Kabo Yellow will clash in the final in Durban next week. The game will be on Saturday 8 October at 15:00.

Ntseki confident that Chiefs are making progress

Image
Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki believes his team can make further progress following their 2-1 over Sekhukhune United on Wednesday. Having lost the MTN8 second leg against Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend, Chiefs needed a quick response but found themselves trailing just before half time. The Glamour Boys picked themselves up in the second half and scored two goals which were enough to give them their third league victory of the season. Ntseki, who has been underpressure ever since he took over as head coach, was happy with how his side played against Sekhukhune, especially in the second half. “I think it’s more of a build-up, if one takes a look at the last three matches we played in terms of the application and implementation of the tactical approach, I think we are progressing,” Ntseki told the  media .

Pirates loanee fires Swallows into third; leads goal-scoring charts

Image
Orlando Pirates loanee Tshegofatso Mabasa inspired Moroka Swallows to a 2-1 win over AmaZulu at the Dobsonville Stadium on Friday night. Mabasa’s brace was enough to give the Dube Birds all three points at home. Steve Komphela’s men moved to third in the DStv Premiership after coming from a goal down to beat Usuthu. Ethan Brooks gave AmaZulu the lead just before the first half after Swallows captain Andile Jali made an error. In the second half, Abbubaker Mobara was shown a straight red which gave Swallows an advantage. Tshegofatso Mabasa netted in a brace within five minutes to give the Birds their fourth win of the season in the DStv Premiership.  Mabasa is now the top scorer of the league with  six goals  after netting a brace in the 2-1 win over AmaZulu. This will not sit well with some of the Orlando Pirates fans who asked Jose Riveiro to give the Bafana Bafana striker a chance this season.  The Buccaneers have struggled for goals of late and in their las...

Sundonws make announcement on Pirates match

What a game we’re going to have. Mamelodi Sundowns will battle Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 final next week, and there is bad news if you don’t have a ticket yet. Bad news for Sundowns fans today

Image
DStv Premiership supremos Mamelodi Sundowns have to press pause on the PSL this weekend. Burundi’s Bumamuru are in Tshwane for the CAF Champions League. Kabo Yellow are on the brink of progressing to the group stages. After what was an easy-peasy 4-0 win in the first leg in Azam, Sundowns are expected to get calmly get the job done in the second leg preliminary round qualifier at Lucas Moripe. Meanwhile, Sundowns head coach Mokwena has revealed full knowledge of who to keep eyes on in the Bumamuru team: Issa Hakizimana, Amissi Bizimana and Ali Valentin.

Is Yusuf Maart now the odd one out at Kaizer Chiefs?

Image
Is this the beginning of the end for Yusuf Maart at Kaizer Chiefs? Sibongiseni Mthethwa does his best work at the base of midfield, breaking up attacks and distributing the ball over short distances to spring his team’s own passing sequences. Right now, Kaizer Chiefs are using hybrid players in the shape of Edson Castillo and Yusuf Maart. Maart is naturally more inclined to go forward but is currently performing more of a box-to-box role. Similarly, Castillo is a complete package player who can do a bit of everything. If Mthethwa were to arrive at Naturena, it would free Venezuelan star Castillo up to bomb forward with more regularity. Sibongiseni Mthethwa isn’t a direct rival for Yusuf Maart’s place in the Chiefs XI. However, his arrival gives coach Molefi Ntseki a number of intriguing new tactical options. Mthethwa is a specialist 6 which might facilitate a switch to a 4-2-3-1. That might be bad news for Maart, who then has to contend with Edson Castillo for a place alongside T...

Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Sundowns all have this special thing in common

Image
Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Sundowns are all giants of South African football. That’s now what we’re here to discuss though. Nicknaming is a special part of South African football. Some of those monikers are obvious and one can see how they originated, while others are a little more cryptic. In instances where clubs have more than one nickname, we’ve included them if those multiple nicknames are popular and well-known enough around Mzansi. How many of these nicknames can you reel off without using Google? Mamelodi Sundowns – The Brazilians, Ka bo Yellow, Masandawana, Shoe Shine and Piano, Bafana ba Style Golden Arrows – Abafana Bes’thende SuperSport United – Matsatsantsa, The Swanky Boys Swallows – The Dube Birds Sekhukhune – Babina Noko Chippa – Chilli Boys AmaZulu – Usuthu Kaizer Chiefs – Amakhosi, The Glamour Boys TS Galaxy – The Rockets Royal AM – Thwihli Thwahla Orlando Pirates – The Buccaneers, The Sea Robbers, Happy People Stellenbosch – Stellies Cape Town City – Th...

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ntseki doesn’t know his best XI and it shows

Image
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki isn’t afraid to make wholesale changes to his starting XI every week. Against Sekhukhune last time out, The Glamour Boys lined up in a 4-2-3-1 with Yusuf Maart and Edson Castillo at the base of midfield. It’s a matter of time before new boy Sibongiseni Mthethwa forces his way into the side though, and it could be at the expense of Maart or more likely in place of George Matlou. Ntseki makes alterations throughout the Chiefs side in almost every match. Reeve Frosler has been deployed in both full-back positions, while Sifiso Hlanti has recently been usurped by Edmilson Dove at left-back. Tebogo Potsane had a stint on the right-hand side of the attack but Christian Saile replaced him against Sekhukhune. Pule Mmodi looks like the first choice on the left-hand side, but even the central striking role is up for grabs with neither Ranga Chivaviro nor Jasond Gonzalez convincing. The sooner Ntseki settles on his favoured XI, the better. Sibongiseni ...

Three Kaizer Chiefs players at risk of losing their place against Cape Town City

Image
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki hasn’t been shy to ring the changes this season. Molefi Ntseki’s charges must wait until next Tuesday the 3rd of october for their next competitive action. They welcome Cape Town City looking to build upon a 2-1 win over Sekhukhune last time out. Sinbongiseni Mthethwa is highly likely to make his first start for Chiefs, meaning a choice will need to be made in midfield. Both  Yusuf Maart and George Matlou  could come out of the side to accommodate “The Ox” in the starting XI. Christian Saile very seldom starts multiple matches in a row for Chiefs. Seeing as though he started against Babina Noko, he could come out of the side with Ranga Chivaviro replacing him. Meanwhile, in defence, it wouldn’t be a massive surprise to see Spirw Given Msimango return in the centre in place of Njabulo Ngcobo.

Kaizer Chiefs outcast Billiat finds new club – Report

Image
Today’s Kaizer Chiefs news wrap is very much focused on the current first team, but there’s also a new report that Khama Billiat has been thrown a PSL lifeline. Three Kaizer Chiefs players could easily lose their place in the club’s next encounter against Cape Town City. Does Molefi Ntseki know his Kaizer Chiefs XI? It doesn’t seem that way, and he might need to be in a rush to arrive at that knowledge. Now City chairman John Comitis, who was in charge of Ajax when Billiat joined, has confirmed their interest.

It all started with a passionate and apparently very wealthy Bugatti collector who has a "deep appreciation for Bugatti history." The collector also happens to be a big fan of the W-16 engine, which is going out with a bang, and wanted to pay homage. From there he commissioned Bugatti's Sur Mesure—which translates to "tailored"—to create a one-of-one art piece with a Chiron Super Sport as its foundation. After speaking with Bugatti's design director at the time, Achim Anscheidt, the pair came up with a concept involving 45 individual sketches, each depicting historical moments and vehicles from Bugatti's history, hand-drawn on the vehicle. The buyer wanted a staggering level of authenticity—even the pens used for these drawings were the same that Bugatti's in-house designers use when sketching vehicles. The passenger side alone hosts 26 individual sketches featuring historic models, like the 1926 Type 41 Royale and the Type 57 Atlantic. The driver's side features 19 sketches which mark historic Bugatti moments starting in 1987 which was when the brand relaunched itself. This sketched mural covers everything from the EB110 to the Veyron and Chiron. A special shade of gold called "Doré" was sprayed on the Chiron to serve as the background of the sketches, while a gradient of "Nocturne Black" paint adds contrast. From a distance, it almost looks like the Chiron Super Sport got a really elaborate tattoo.

Would you let someone draw on your multi-million-dollar hypercar? That is exactly what one mystery buyer commissioned Bugatti to do for him. The 1,578-horsepower rolling work of art is dubbed the "Golden Era," and its canvas is a Bugatti Chiron Super Sport. 2024 Acura ZDX First Look: Electrified With a Little Help From GM

Image
The first ZDX  was a bit of a moonshot for a cautious Acura brand, jumping headfirst into the then-nascent SUV coupe genre with the underpinnings of a performance sedan (but not the engine, unfortunately). The idea made sense, what with the surprise success of the BMW X6, but it just didn't catch on the same way. Now, the brand is swinging for the fences again and applying the nameplate to its first EV, although  the 2024 Acura ZDX  is a more conventionally shaped SUV. Billed as "the most powerful and quickest accelerating SUV" in Acura history, the ZDX is debuting in its Type S performance trim promising 500 total horsepower from an electric motor on each axle. At that power level, range from the 102-kWh battery is estimated at 288 miles. The base A-Spec model will be available with a single- or dual-motor powertrain with the single-motor making 340 horsepower and the dual-motor output not specified yet but likely greater. Range improves noticeably to 325 miles fo...

2028 Lamborghini Lanzador First Look: Ultra GT EV Offers Side Effects of Fun

Image
We've all been burned once before by a beautiful 2+2 Lamborghini GT design, the  stunning Asterion concept car  from back in 2015. The Asterion offered a promise of a future hybrid Lamborghini grand touring coupe, though it sadly never materialized as a production model (though its hybrid spirit lives on, in a fashion, in the Urus SUV and  all-new Revuelto V-12 plug-in supercar) . Now, it's the Lamborghini Lanzador EV concept's turn to twist our imaginations around what an all-electric Lamborghini could be—even with a name fit for prescription medication. The sculpted exterior design of the new Lanzador "ultra" GT EV, as Lambo is labeling it, recalls a few signature elements of the 2015 Asterion GT hybrid design, including a similar shade of blue paint that seems to have carried over concept-to-concept (called Azzurro Abissale in this application). However, the Lanzador sports broader intakes and slimmer headlights up front more akin to the Urus, with a cab-forw...

2024 Acura ZDX vs 2024 Cadillac Lyriq: Attack of the Luxury EV SUV Clones

Image
The  Acura ZDX has finally returned , not as an SUV coupe again but as an equally bold electric vehicle—Acura's first! If you haven't heard already from our earlier reporting, it's based on  General Motors' Ultium EV platform  and borrows batteries and motors from its American business partner. GM's getting a lot of mileage out of Ultium already, with  the Cadillac Lyriq  the second of many vehicles to be based on the same architecture. The similarities between the ZDX and Lyriq go a lot deeper, though. Underneath, they're basically the same car. Sharing the same platform, it's no surprise the ZDX and Lyriq use the same power source. Both vehicles are powered by a 102-kWh lithium-ion battery pack under the floor. Since it's the same battery and charging hardware, they both charge at a maximum of 190 kW on a public DC Fast charger. Interestingly, Acura says the ZDX fills its battery slightly quicker than the Lyriq, gaining 81 miles in 10 minutes compare...

The Dark Knight Returns as a Highly Modified Tesla Model S Plaid

Image
You might know Unplugged Performance from such hits as  the Ascension R (a modified Model 3)  and  South Pasadena's new police cruisers . But like any good aftermarket outfit, toss enough money in its direction and the results can be stunning. Take this newest build, dubbed "Dark Knight." It's part of the S-APEX series, customer-curated creations with a full battery of enhancements, both cosmetic and performance-oriented. Not that the underlying Tesla Model S Plaid needs much help in the performance department.  You're probably well aware of its superlative acceleration . UP mainly gets involved mechanically with handling and grip, fitting a Sports Dynamic lowering kit, a rear adjustable sway bar, billet aluminum adjustable control arms, and carbon ceramic brakes with a cooling duct system. The rolling stock is slick, too, with UP-03 forged monoblock wheels in 21-inches.

First Look: Is the Bigger 2025 Mini Countryman EV SUV Better?

Image
Mini has a maxi year planned, with  a fresh new lineup  that embraces the transition to electric vehicles, starting with the  new 2025 Mini Countryman EV for the U.S., followed by the  new Mini Cooper EV . While the Coopers will get smaller, the third-generation Countryman, which was already the largest Mini when the original launched in 2010, grows again in size. Both sport new looks and optional electric motors. The EV versions of the next-generation models are making their public debut at the Munich auto show as Mini transitions to an all-electric brand by 2030. The new Countryman is 5.1 inches longer and 2.4 inches higher with wider wheel arches to accommodate wheels up to 20 inches, says Thomas Sycha, head of Mini exterior design. The crossover sits more upright with short overhangs, a redesigned C-pillar, and sporting a more distinctive octagonal grille. The front LED headlights are more rectangular and no longer framed with chrome—in fact chrome is bani...

2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain First Look: Wagon Again

Image
With  the new E-Class sedan 's  arrival for 2024 , Mercedes fans might be wondering where the rarer station wagon version is. Well, wonder no more, because the newest-generation E-Class wagon is here—and like before, it's only available in Subaru-style "All-Terrain" guise, at least until the expected fire-breathing Mercedes-AMG E63 variant joins the lineup sometime later. You'll recall that Mercedes  dropped the regular-grade E-Class wagon with the last generation , opting instead for the pseudo-SUV-ish E-Class All-Terrain starting in 2020. Call it a bold move; E-Class wagon customers are among the most loyal of all of Benz's clientele, but their numbers aren't huge. Mercedes probably figured it could attract more buyers to the luxury wagon segment if it threw some butch plastic cladding and a taller ride height at what is otherwise the same elegant estate car it sells elsewhere in the world. And if you want a traditional, car-height wagon, AMG will be h...
